Academic Seminar with Prof. Richmond Sarpong

Did you know that natural products serve as the basis of many new medicines? Natural products also provide intricate problems that expose limitations in the strategies and methods employed in chemical synthesis. What are natural products? Why are they important in chemistry? Richmond Sarpong’s experiences growing up in Sub-Saharan Africa led to his interest in natural products. These early influences, along with the evolution of Sarpong’s career in synthetic organic chemistry, will be discussed.

York University Graduate Open House

Dear Undergraduate Students,

The Department of Chemistry at York University is pleased to announce its 2nd annual Graduate Open House (GOH) for prospective graduate students, which will take place virtually on Saturday, January 22, 2022 (see poster for details).

We welcome all undergraduate students who may be interested in applying to graduate school at YorkU for Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 entry. Although our event is targeted towards students in their final year of undergraduate studies, students in any year are welcome to attend the GOH to learn more about summer research or co-op opportunities at YorkU.

Our department is comprised of 28 faculty members with 12 new hires since 2017. We work in diverse research areas across the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science. To learn more about the research going on in our department, click here for a brief video. Additional details can be found on our website.

At the GOH, you will have the opportunity to learn about our graduate program, graduate student life, and research interests at YorkU. You can also meet faculty members, students, and postdocs in the department, as well as network with other prospective students. A detailed itinerary will be released closer to the date.

>> If you are interested in attending the Open House, please register by filling out this form by December 31, 2021https://tinyurl.com/4nxuu8yb <<

There is no cost to attend the event and you are not obligated to apply to our graduate program if you attend the Open House.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly (cmle@yorku.ca) if you have any questions.

We hope to see you all there!

Best regards,
